Guatemalan VISA Application Process
Authorization for entry, stay, and transit within the national territory, issued by the competent authority in accordance with legal provisions and the Treaties, Agreements, or International Conventions to which Guatemala is a party.
Guatemala offers different types of visas depending on the applicant’s nationality and the purpose of their visit. Examples include:
Tourist or Traveler Visa:
Required for nationals from countries classified under Category C.
Consulted Visa for Paid Activities:
For individuals providing consultancy or professional services in Guatemala.
Requirements:
2. Original valid passport and a certified complete copy; if not available, an official certification of the passport issued by a competent authority and apostilled may be presented
3. Certification of the passport’s validity and expiration, issued by the Embassy or Consulate of the applicant’s country accredited in Guatemala. If no diplomatic representation is available, the applicant must submit:
- A certification of validity and expiration issued in a third country where such representation exists, or
- A birth certificate. All foreign documents must be apostilled.
4. Original certificate of valid and current police and criminal background checks, issued by the competent authority in the applicant’s country of origin or in the country of legal residence for the past five continuous years. These documents must have been issued within the last six months (unless a different validity period is stated therein) and must be translated into Spanish if in another language. The translation may be done by the embassy, a certified translator recognized in Guatemala, or in accordance with regulations from the Judicial Branch. Documents must be apostilled or legally certified as required.
If the countries where the applicant resided do not issue these documents, issue a single document, or use different terminology, an official statement must be submitted by the competent authority explaining the unavailability of such records. Additionally, legal residency in any third country must be duly documented.
5. Proof of financial capacity from the Guatemalan sponsor, through a recent income certificate and bank statements from the last three months, showing income equivalent to at least five current minimum wages in Guatemala
6. Round-trip transportation ticket
7. Designated Guatemalan sponsor, with a notarized affidavit establishing the sponsorship and an updated registration certificate as a Guatemalan sponsor
8. Original letter of service request from the public or private institution requesting the foreign national’s presence in Guatemala due to their professional expertise
9. Proof of payment of applicable fees
If the applicant is being requested by a private institution, the following must also be attached: A signed and stamped certificate from the owner or legal representative of the entity where the services will be rendered.

Please note: the granting of a visa does not imply unconditional admission into the territory of the Republic of Guatemala.
