Guatemala offers 360 microclimates that provide diversity, quality, and abundant raw materials throughout the year, making it an appealing location for agro-industrial product investment, research, and development.

Quality certifications and tracebility
Agribussinesses have international certifications of their production processes such as Best Agricultural Practices, Best Aquaculture Practices, Best Manufacture Practices, Global Gap, HACCP, FSMA, among others. They also comply with strict enviromental sustainability, food safety, health and animal welfare schemes and corporate social responsability. They are subject to strict official controls and monitoring programs on food safety, animal health, plant health and residue management, that allow traceability and guarantee the safety and quality of the products.
360 microclimates that enable productivity and competitiveness
Guatemala is located within the tropical zone of the northern hemisphere, with a wide diversity of altitudes and around 360 microclimates that allow production year around. The country is an attractive destination for investment, research and development of agribussinesses, with a variety of quality raw materials. The main climatic zones are:
  • Hot Lands, in the costal plains, with an altitude up to 700 meters and temperatures from 25 to 32 C
  • Temperate Lands, in the highlands, with an altitude between 700 to 1800 mts and temperatures from 18 to 25 C
  • Cold Lands, in the high mountains, with an altitude above 1900 meters and temperatures from 15 to 25 c
Products with added value and diversification
In the past 30 years, Guatemala has diversify the production of agroindustrial products, through training, technology and private sector investment. The food and beverage industry is characterized by being innovative and quickly responding to market trends. The aquaculture industry uses high technology that has increase their productivity and quality. The agriculture industry has implemented programs that support diversification of income generating rural value chains and value added products.
Potential for growth and an integrated food production chain
Guatemala has a fertile land, abundant in natural resources and availability of raw materials that allow the local supply of main inputs for the development of agri-food value chains. There are over 2.5 million small-scale farmers and a wide variety of agricultural products, such as: Tropical Fruits: banana, plantains, melons, watermelons, pineapples, papayas, mango, avocado, berries, rambutan, limes, other Vegetables: peas, French beans, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, baby vegetables Differentiated products: cacao, honey, species, cardamom, sesame There are also other quality main inputs like sugar, palm oil, packaging materials, electricity and other services.
